[Editors Note: Sadly Nate Jones has left the Dolphins to sign with the Denver Broncos. Nate Jones was fantastic for Miami as a Nickel Corner who loved the role he played. We wish him well in Denver reunited with two other former Dolphins DB’s Renaldo Hill and Andre Goodman.]
Hey guys!
Hope you’re all having a great off-season. I recently filmed a fundraising event hosted by Cincinnati Bengals Running Back, Brian Leonard. NFL attendees included Cedric Benson, J.P. Foschi, Ray Rice; Shaun O’Hara; Anthony Fasano; Nate Jones;  Jeremy Zuttah; Derrick Roberson; Jamaal Westerman; Manny Collins; Brandon Renkart; Courtney Greene; Gary Gibson; Kevin Malast; Kevin Brock; Jason McCourty and retired NFL veteran Marco Battaglia. Rutgers head coach, Greg Schiano; Chris Quinn of the New Jersey Nets; and Matthew Berry of ESPN Fantasy.
The players who were unable to appear in-person sent autographed and game-used memorabilia for the silent auction.  Among the numerous signed items were a Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers jersey, Chad Ochocinco and Carson Palmer footballs, and helmets from past and present Rutgers and NFL greats.
The efforts of Brian and his fellow athletes and friends helped raise money for Embrace Kids Foundation, a New Brunswick, New Jersey-based non-profit organization servicing children with cancer and blood disorders.
I had a chance to chat with Nate Jones for a few minutes and told him about DolfansNYC. He was really happy to hear about the club and was very appreciative of the support from the fans. Check out what he had to say.
Okay guys, barring a miracle this is the last Dolphins game this year. It is pretty sad to bring this to an end, especially when we could have been just a few plays from the post season. Worst of all, our errors have let the Jets climb back in this thing.
Still, what I am most sad about is Dolfans NYC coming to an end. I have never had so much fun watching games in my life. I know this game is on TV and we don’t have a lot of chances of making the play offs and it is cold outside and a million other reasons not to come out this week. But I beg of you guys, come out and end this year in style. Come say bye to all the Phins fans you have met this year and root our team to victory one last time this year.
We have some events planned in the off season, including our second annual draft party. We are going to get DolfansNYC shirts made by then and we have a few other things up our sleeve. I will update you guys more after this weekend.
So, I hope we pack Third & Long tomorrow, and if there is anyone out there who still hasn’t watched a game with us, you still have one more chance. See you soon.
In the history of the Texans franchise they are 4-0 against the Dolphins. They are the only team in the league that we have never beaten. That ends Sunday.
We may only have marginal shot at the playoffs, but one thing we can do is finally end this Texans win streak and I can’t wait. According to Accuscore the Dolphins have a 32% chance of making the playoffs, and with the Titans losing last night that probably went up a tiny bit. We still have to have Baltimore lose both their games or the Broncos lose to the Chiefs, but we do have a shot and that is more than can be said for a lot of teams.
This is a big week for us as a club too, because we finally got a logo designed and we are going to have T-shirts made up. We will probably wait until next season unless we make the playoffs, but a lot of people have asked about them and we will be making it happen. Check out the logo designed by comic book artist Jim Callahan below.
Another link I was asked to send your way was a reminder to check out the Dolphins 5th Quarter Live show. After every game they do a live wrap up of the game live on MiamiDolphins.com. The old episodes are worth checking out too.
And lastly a little bit of bad news as far as I am concerned. Both Michelle and I are going to be out of town this week. She is in Miami for the holidays and I ended up getting stuck in DC. I actually may make it back by getting on an early bus tomorrow, but I have a feeling I will be watching the game with the Arlington/DC Dolphins Fan Club. I hope you guys still pack Third and Long. It should be a big game. Hopefully I will make it in time, but if not, I will see you week 17 and hopefully beyond.
Go Dolphins!
Ps. Hope you guys like the new logo. Let us know what you think!
The Dolphins continue their run for a playoff spot as they travel up to Tennessee to face the Titans. This is a huge game for us and I know we’re counting down the minutes until kickoff. Remember if we win out, we can get in the playoffs if the Pats, Ravens or Broncos lose a game, so these are all must wins.
As always, DolfansNYC will be at Third and Long and we can’t wait to see you all there. Since this is the last game before the holiday season kicks into full gear, we figured we’d go all out and raffle off a ton of stuff! We’ve got Dolphins bags, books, photos and footballs, including an awesome one signed by Vernon Carey. The money that we raise will go towards the I Will Foundation and DolfansNYC, so that we can continue to bring the fun every week.
Last week was a tough loss and it might have killed our chances at the playoffs, but at least the Patriots lost and if we beat them today everything gets a lot more interesting. Despite the loss everyone had a lot of fun at Third and Long last week and we hope to see everyone back out again this afternoon.
Remember, the game was flexed from 8PM to 1PM so make sure you are at the bar by 1245 anxiously awaiting kick off!
Also we wanted to mention a few other things:
Short Michelle has been taking drum lessons and on Wednesday she is going to be performing the Monday Night Football theme decked out in Dolphins gear as part of her drum schools student showcase. Come out and support her.
Wednesday, Dec 9th
7pm – 9:30pm
Arlene’s Grocery @ 95 Stanton Street
$12 cover
Also the Miami Dolphins sent us an email asking us to plug their new web show called the 5th Quarter Show. Every week after the game they are going to be doing a live post game online featuring Bary Buetel and Nat Moore. Already they have a bunch of videos up and you should check it out. It seems like it should be pretty great.
Lastly if you have anything Dolphins related you would like to see in the weekly email or on the DolfansNYC website, please let us know. We would love to get more people involved!
We finally have a chance to have a winning record this week. We dug out of a deep hole and find ourselves in a great spot. If we can beat the Bills this week and the Patriots lose to the Saints, next week sets up to be a battle for first place in the division. But before we can get ahead of ourselves we need to take care of these Bills. They are falling apart but they played a lot better last week under a new coach. They held Mo-Jo Drew to under 100 yards and TO had nearly a 200 yard game for them with Ryan Fitzpatrick replacing Trent Edwards. We can’t take this team lightly. Should be a fun one.
Now, I hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving wherever you may have had it, but I hope you will be back in time. I am in DC myself right now, but I will be taking a train first thing in the morning to get to Third & Long in time for the game. I hope to see as many people out as we had last week, that was a fantastic experience. And to keep things interesting, check out this video of Dolphin great Kim Bokamper giving DolfansNYC a shout out from his restaurant in South Florida. If you are in town for a game, you have to stop by Bokampers.
Wow, last Thursday was crazy. We packed that place. This club has really become something. When Ricky scored at the end of that game, I thought the place was going to come apart. It’s great to be back at 5 and 5 and with the Cincy, Pittsburgh and Denver all losing we are in pretty decent shape for the Wild Card. We still have games against Pittsburgh, Jacksonville & Houston and have a chance to put ourselves in good shape with wins in all three of those games. Of course none of it will matter if we don’t take care of the division. With Buffalo and New England coming up, this should be an exciting few weeks of football.
Anyway, check out all the pictures from last week below and please send positive thoughts towards Jake Grove’s ankle. We really need him back.
I just about to head down to Third & Long for the Thursday night game against the Carolina Panthers. This was a win on my calendar two weeks ago, but since then Carolina has pulled out two big wins. Not to mention the horrible news of Ronnie Brown being out for the year. This could be a tough one. We win this, we have 10 days to get healthy, a game against a falling apart Buffalo team, and then into New England. If we can beat NE, we will own the tie breakers against them and the Jets in the event of a tie. These are some pretty big games.
Anyway, here is another video where you get to know members of DolfansNYC. Usually I introduce them, but since we only had a few of us down in Miami Michelle and I decided to interview ourselves as well. I was going to get someone else to do the introduction, but we completely forgot. So yeah, there is no introduction, just me awkwardly talking about why I am a Dolphins fan, and how this club began. Enjoy.
Hey guys. After the insanely tough first half of our schedule things ease up a bit starting this week against the 1-7 Bucs. They did look a lot better last week with their new Rookie QB, but their defense is pretty terrible and I think we can get Henne some of the confidence he needs.
Michelle and I are down in Miami and will have a ton of pictures and video for the site when we get back, but we need you guys to hold the bar down while we are gone.
The game is at 1pm so I know you guys will be out in force. All the regulars will be there and going crazy.
If you haven’t been to Third & Long yet, maybe this is your week!
And if any of you are in Miami right now, hit us up and maybe we can meet up before the game tomorrow.
Well, I’m almost recovered from that terrible loss to the Patriots – a team that I dislike A LOT! As some of you may know, I used to watch the Phins games in a Pats bar. It was brutal, week after week, but also inspired Igor and I to start DolfansNYC, so certainly a bittersweet experience.
In any case, the thing that definitely helped me feel better about the game was looking back at how awesome the people at Third and Long were on Sunday. So many of you contributed to our fundraiser to support the club and The I Will Foundation. I had a terrific opportunity to meet Matt Long, the founder of I Will. His story is moving and inspiring and I encourage all of you to check it out on his website iwillfoundation.com We talked about having him come in to meet everyone during one of our games in December, which is going to be awesome!
Dolfans – I can’t thank you all enough for your generosity, enthusiasm and great energy! You are the reason this club is so awesome and I look forward to seeing you guys during the weeks ahead.
Also a VERY special thanks to Curtis, the manager at the bar, who has been a great supporter of DolfansNYC and continues to be a rock star! You’re the best!
Enjoy this short video from Sunday at Third and Long.
