This week we play another division rival, the stinking Buffalo Bills. As bad as their record is they are actually playing pretty good offensive football and our line took a big loss this week losing Vernon Carey for the year. This game could be a tough one…
We are doing a special event for the game at Third & Long thanks to Buffalo Trace Bourbon. They are doing a campaign called “Shoot the Buffalo” and the woman who handles their marketing is a HUGE Dolphins fan and thought we could work something out. She provided five bottles of Buffalo Trace to our tailgate last week and this week for the Buffalo game she is buying us 300 Buffalo Wings and doing Buffalo Trace specials at the bar. It’s just $4 a shot and $6 for mixed drinks. I didn’t drink any last weekend but from what everyone told me it’s really, really good bourbon.
On top of the cheap Bourbon and free wings Nat Moore sent us a Larry Csonka autographed football to auction off during the game. We will be auctioning off that as well as some other Dolphins memorabilia during the third quarter of the game. Raffle tickets will be on sale for $1. As always all the sales from the fundraising go to charity and to raising money for the club so we can do things like tailgates and print more t-shirts.
Over the last few weeks we have made a lot of really good connections with the Dolphins organization and we have some really amazing stuff to look forward to next season. I don’t want to get ahead of ourselves but we should have some pretty awesome events and raffle prizes next year. Plus with the Dolphins coming to town next year to play the Giants we will have TWO Meadowlands tailgates.
Lastly, I leave you with another sick Solo D song: “Beat The Bills”! Go Dolphins!
Just a few more notes on tomorrows game…
It is going to rain tomorrow. If you are tailgating with us, if you have any sort of tent or covering you can bring please do! We will be doing the tailgate rain or shine but if the rain is really bad we might park in a near by parking garage.
Also remember we will have some food and and some booze but we are looking at probably 100 people for this thing assuming the weather isn’t horrible so we need everyone to bring your own food and booze if you can. If anyone has a grill or any of the normal tailgating stuff bring it. We can’t have too much stuff.
One thing we will have at the tailgate will be Orange Miami Dolphins Rally towels. We had the Dolphins send us a box of 50 towels that they were giving out at the last Jets game. We will be giving them out to anyone who bought tickets with us and hopefully we can fly those Orange towels all day.
If you are planning on tailgating with us and have not done so already email DolfansNYC@Gmail.com with your contact info. We will be emailing everyone as soon as we park and know where we are going to be. We are planning on being there between 11 and 11:30. If you can’t get email on your phone give us your phone number and we will text you. We will also be updating the @dolfansnyc Twitter and updating the Facebook group as soon as we park.
Now, very important. I know with the weather and the Dolphins record some people are trying to get rid of tickets. If you bought your tickets with us you are with a group of Dolphins fans. Do NOT sell your tickets to stub hub or let them fall into Jets fans hands. That would be really unfair to the rest of the group. People bought these not so great 300 level tickets so they could be surrounded by Dolphins fans, people want support in enemy territory. If you have extra tickets please post a message on the Facebook group. If anyone needs tickets, please check the Facebook group. Hopefully we can figure this out.
And finally… I just wanted you guys to check out this song by a Miami rapper named Solo D. He writes a song every week about the Dolphins upcoming opponent. His song about the Jets game is amazing. We have already hit him up about doing an official Dolfans NYC song.
Can’t wait until we take over Giants Stadium tomorrow. Go Dolphins!
Hey guys! I hope you enjoyed the break from football as much as I did. After having my heart broken two weeks in a row I have pretty much avoided everything Dolphins for a while. I just couldn’t take it. But I am officially back on board.
The Dolphins are 2-0 on the road and ready to make it 3-0 against a banged up Packers. It looks like Aaron Rodgers is going to play but Clay Matthews is doubtful and Woodson has a toe injury which is never a good injury for a DB to have. On the Dolphins side we are the healthiest we have been all year coming off the bye week. Looks like Odrick is still out, but we finally get Crowder back and John Jerry is at least going to be worked in. If the Dolphins can hit Rodgers early (and Cam Wake should have a day with RT Mark Tauscher doubtful) I think they have a pretty good chance of taking the upset and getting back on track. And I pray they do because I can not take three straight losses. We need this game.
I am excited to see everyone at Third & Long (35th and 3rd Ave) this week. We should have a little more room to move around at the bar this week since it is not a big division game, but I hope to see the place pretty packed anyway. I know that anyone who can manage to be a Phins fan in the middle of Jests country can’t possibly be a fair weather fan. We aren’t doing a raffle or anything this week, but we still have drink specials if you are wearing Dolphins colors and as always we will have sound and the game on more than half the TV’s in the bar.
I noticed that Hulu recently released a ton of new NFL season highlights. The Dolphins have about 10 seasons up including the ’72 & ’73 seasons and some classic Marino stuff… But I immediately went to the 2002 highlights. 2002 seems to be the Dolphins season that haunts me the most. I think part of it was that it was the first NFL season after I turned 21 so it was the first time in my life I could go to sports bars and watch every single game. Since that season I have only missed one full Dolphins game and I had a friend calling me every few minutes with updates…
But that season was one of the only times since Marino that the Dolphins really had a real shot at greatness. We were destroying people until Jay Fiedler got hurt against the Broncos in what at the time was one of the best games I had ever seen. We won with no time on the clock with a 53 yard field goal. It was amazing. Unfortunately Fiedler broke his thumb and was replaced by the singularly worst QB in Dolphins history Ray Lucas who promptly lost us three straight games. After that it was up to Wannstdet to over use Ricky until a season later he was hanging out in Australia instead of running over Jets and Patriots.
The 2002 season we had 6 Dolphins defenders in the Pro Bowl along with Ricky on offense, we trounced the AFC Champion Raiders and yet we went 9-7. The next year we won 10 games and still didn’t make the playoffs. It was disastrous…. and it only got worse…
You watch these highlights and you will see so many players that got away or were never the same again… Of course we lost Ricky but within a few seasons rookie sensation Randy McMichael was gone, Surtain and Madison were cast aside, we let Todd Wade and Morlon Greenwood leave in free agency, Jamie Nails got injured and Chris Chambers never lived up to his potential. In one of our biggest mistakes we traded Adewale Ogunleye for Marty Booker and a third round draft pick that we immediately traded for a running back who immediately got hurt. Wannstedt mismanaged Rob Konrad until he decided to retire and even solid role players like Travis Minor and Ed Perry were soon gone. And I still miss Olindo Mare if only for his booming kickoffs…
It was sad to see a team that good fall apart so quickly. We were so spoiled then. If we had only appreciated what we had in Jay Fiedler and how nice it was to have 10 and 11 win seasons even if we weren’t doing much in the playoffs… Sigh…
Anyway, I am going to just let you watch these highlights. Try to appreciate them instead of depressing yourself like I just have. And then look towards the future and hope that Chad Henne is the real deal and that Brandon Marshall’s hips and temper hold up for a few years and that Ricky has a few more 100 yard games in him and that Jason Taylor isn’t a 10th of the player he was in 2002…
DolfansNYC had a little run in at the 2010 NFL Draft with none other than Paul “Fitzy” Fitzgerald.  Fitzy is some sort of YouTube clown who likes to dance around and make jokes about football.  He was wearing a very cute Brady throwback, which I am sure confused him at first since he probably wasn’t aware New England had a football team before 2001.  Anyway, this guy overcame all the “18 and 1” and  “Fuck Tom Brady” chants long enough to ask some football fans some questions.  I asked him one myself “How’s Wes Welker’s knee doing?”  He had a cute response I am sure, but I try not to pay attention to what anyone from Boston has to say.
Eventually we came together in our hatred of the Jets, and I led DolfansNYC in a lovely J-E-T-S Suck Suck Suck chant around the 3:25 mark in the video. In all seriousness, Fitzy, aka Nick Stevens is a pretty funny dude and this video is well worth watching. Enjoy.
The Dolphins are planning big things for the fans for the upcoming draft. I just got this in my inbox from the Dolphins.
MiamiDolphins.com will provide live video coverage as General Manager Jeff Ireland hosts his annual pre-draft press conference on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at 12:30 p.m.After the press conference at 1:00 p.m., Ireland will take part in a 30-minute Live Video Chat with Dol-Fans. We ask that fan please be sure to submit your first name, city and state with their question. To submit a question for the Dolphins General Manager, please go to www.MiamiDolphins.com/AskJeffIreland.
Its not often that the Dolphins give access to Jeff, much less fan access, so I hope you guys take the chance to send in a quesiton or two. I know I have a lot to ask… although very little of it has to do with the draft.
I think my first question might be HOW THE HELL DO YOU LET JASON TAYLOR VISIT THE STINKING JETS!!!?!?!!!??
Good lord, my heart is breaking today. Let’s just hope this is a smoke screen that actually works in getting JT signed for another two years. I want him to retire a Phin and it’s not like we are swimming in pass rushers…
On a club update, we are trying to organize a trip to watch the first round of the draft live. We wanted to do a draft party, but I think we instead are going to bring out a group to the draft. Hopefully we will have t-shirts by then! Get excited.
And lastly, remember to check out Run Ricky Run on ESPN on April 27th. It should be really intresting.
[Editors Note: Sadly Nate Jones has left the Dolphins to sign with the Denver Broncos. Nate Jones was fantastic for Miami as a Nickel Corner who loved the role he played. We wish him well in Denver reunited with two other former Dolphins DB’s Renaldo Hill and Andre Goodman.]
Hey guys!
Hope you’re all having a great off-season. I recently filmed a fundraising event hosted by Cincinnati Bengals Running Back, Brian Leonard. NFL attendees included Cedric Benson, J.P. Foschi, Ray Rice; Shaun O’Hara; Anthony Fasano; Nate Jones;  Jeremy Zuttah; Derrick Roberson; Jamaal Westerman; Manny Collins; Brandon Renkart; Courtney Greene; Gary Gibson; Kevin Malast; Kevin Brock; Jason McCourty and retired NFL veteran Marco Battaglia. Rutgers head coach, Greg Schiano; Chris Quinn of the New Jersey Nets; and Matthew Berry of ESPN Fantasy.
The players who were unable to appear in-person sent autographed and game-used memorabilia for the silent auction.  Among the numerous signed items were a Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers jersey, Chad Ochocinco and Carson Palmer footballs, and helmets from past and present Rutgers and NFL greats.
The efforts of Brian and his fellow athletes and friends helped raise money for Embrace Kids Foundation, a New Brunswick, New Jersey-based non-profit organization servicing children with cancer and blood disorders.
I had a chance to chat with Nate Jones for a few minutes and told him about DolfansNYC. He was really happy to hear about the club and was very appreciative of the support from the fans. Check out what he had to say.
I ended up getting stuck in DC last weekend and watching the game with the DC fan club. I will take full responsibility for the loss because I left the bar at half time to watch the game at my parents house and we immediately got back into the game. I am pretty sure if I had not been cheating on you guys we would have won the game. My sincere apologies.
Barring a miracle this Sunday will the the last DolfansNYC meet up for a while. We are planning two events for the off season including a draft party and another event that I don’t want to talk about until it’s finalized. We are going to be making shirts in the off season and should have those available online soon probably.
I will talk about it more in the weekely email, but since this is probably the last game I hope everyone comes out even if there is not a lot of importance in this game. Clearly reaching .500 would be nice, but I want everyone to come out so we can say good bye for a while. There are so many awesome people I have met a Third & Long and I hope to see you guys all at least once more before the break.
Anyway, since things are a bit depressing in Dolphins land I will leave you with something to hopefully cheer you up. It is a shout out from Anthony Fasano repping Dolfans NYC. Fasano has been really with us and donated a lot of signed pictures for the raffles we have had this year.
In the final 2009 installment of “What’s Your Fantasy,” I break down the players to start, bench, and think about for your Super Bowl lineup. This week’s recommendations include sticking with my cardinal rule of fantasy football, not taking chances with uncertain matchups, and playing every 49er with a pulse against the Detroit Lions. As always, we’ve got plenty of music, photos, and jokes for your viewing pleasure.  Go Fins!!
Like I said Michelle made a pretty great video this week. The bar was rocking against the Jags and it was a great party. I don’t really have much to say about it so I will let the video speak for it’s self. Come out this Sunday and star in the video for next week. Go Dolphins!
