Michelle and I were lucky enough to attend the Raiders/Dolphins game at Sun Life Stadium last week. I was in Miami on business and Michelle was visiting her family. We got cheap tickets and got there early to tailgate. I got to meet up with the Deep End guys and met a bunch of local crazy Dolfans. Kyshawn from Dolfans NYC was there too and ended up sitting in the Deep End. Very cool. Next time I am in Miami I am gonna figure my way in there…
Anyway, I shot a roll of actual film at the game and I just got it developed. Check out real life 35mm film photographs of the amazing game below. RIP Jim Mandich.
Although it seems ages ago after that tragedy that befell us on Thanksgiving Day, last Sunday was fantastic. Our boys in Aqua trounced the Buffalo Jills in the most brutal fashion. Our defense came up huge pounding away on the Bills who limped off the field down by multiple scores after just the first half. It was a beautiful thing.
Third and Long was not exactly packed as you might expect when your team loses seven straight games to open a season but the die hards are there every week and by the end of the first quarter the bar was bumping. This was the most fun I have had watching a Dolphins game since I had second row seats to watch the Phins beat the Jets at the Meadowlands to lock up the AFC Championship in 2008. It was a great day.
I took a few pictures that are not exactly the most flattering shots of our bunch. Earlier in the year we tend to have a lot more cute girls out. But hey a win is a win and shots all around. Go Dolphins!

As bad as the Dolphins have been I have been amazed at how Dolfans NYC has continued to show up. On Sunday against a terrible Broncos the bar was packed by halftime. When the game started there were only about a dozen of us and I figured it was going to be empty but by God you guys kept showing up and we had a great time comiserating about the team and discussing the future. When you blow a game like that it’s really nice to be surrounded by people who feel your pain.
It took me a while to get over losing to the Jets and finally put these photos up but I have some great pictures for you.
First off we had our Nat Moore meet and greet event last Sunday. If you weren’t there Nat Moore came by to watch football with us. We had a raffle and raised some money for charity. Third and Long paid for food for everyone and Nat talked with everyone and signed autographs. He was really great and I cannot thank him enough. I know everyone there really apreciated it and I was really impressed with the turn out considering the Dolphins weren’t even playing.
The second batch of photos I have for you is from our amazing tailgate at the Jets game. We didn’t sell as many tickets as we were hoping but we still had more than 50 people all in the same section at the game and we had a lot more than that at the tailgate. We met people from all over the country and sold them a bunch of Dolfans NYC t-shirts (all the money goes to charity) to take home with them and rep in Miami and all over the place. A couple of guys were even in town from Belgium! Very cool. The game of course was a disaster but we held strong and most of us were still left in our seats when the whistle sounded. We had some fun after the game too but I think we will just leave it at that…
I am posting two galleries below. The top one is from the Nat Moore event at Third & Long and the bottom one is from the Monday Night Football tailgate at the Meadowlands. If you want a copy of a photo just double click on it in the slideshow and it will take you to the gallery. Go Dolphins!
I am a bit late posting these photos, basically because last week killed me inside and I have spent the last six days pretending that football is not a thing. Unfortunately, it still is a thing and I get to go down to Third & Long tomorrow and hang out with everyone and have an amazing time until the Dolphins embarrass us again.
Then again, I remember thinking we were going to get killed by the Chargers a few years ago and we Wild Catted the hell out of them. I was watching the game at a Dolphins bar in CT called Woody’s and that place was a big part of the inspiration for us starting Dolfans NYC. Unfortunately this year I don’t think we have any secret weapons and with Daniel Thomas and Vontae Davis out we could be in a lot of trouble…
Anyway, despite losing last week. we raised over $300 for charity through our raffle and t-shirt sales. Tomorrow we won’t be doing a raffle at Third & Long but we will have Dolfans NYC t-shirts. So yeah, check out the photos below and let’s all pray to Don Shula that the Dolphins somehow get their shit together tomorrow and win at least one game before the bye week.
I wanted to get up the photos from our party Monday before we play more football. We had a great turnout and raised money for charity selling shirts. If you made it out to Third & Long you saw that we had some TV issues with the new HD TV system and we had to watch the first half of the game a few bars down. Luckily everything was fixed and most of us returned to Third & Long for a serious party despite the awful outcome.
This week I hope Third & Long is bumping again even though myself and the other Dolfans NYC team members will be in Miami watching the game. I am sure the die hards will hold it down for us. So come out this week and check out the photos from last week using the slideshow below. Double click on a photo if you want to save and download it.
First of all let me apologize for not getting these pictures up sooner. I have been out of town a lot and Short Michelle and Alex are busy planning their wedding next weekend. Combine that with the lockout and a less than exciting first round pick and it all adds up to me posting this weeks late. Sorry.
I also want to say that when I say less than exciting about Mike Pouncey only mean that being a lineman isn’t exactly someone you spend a lot of time watching highlights of. I am pretty happy with the pick and the draft over all. Let’s just hope we can improve our back field in the off season.
The Dolfans NYC turnout was a little low this year as was the turnout of the draft in general. It rained the night before when we had to wait in line, and of course the lockout thing, so pretty much just the die hard football fans showed up. A lot of the Dolfans NYC die hards had to work too. But even after all that we still had a pretty good turn out and filled up an entire row of the draft. We brought along ALRIGHT MIAMI signs for Jim Mandich and even got Roger Godell to hold one up for us. Mad Dog had just died and we wanted to try to get out signs on TV to show our love and express the sadness of Dolphins fans everywhere. Luckily we made it on both NFL Network and on ESPN!
Anyway, we all had a blast, and I think it’s too late to give a draft wrap up, so why don’t you guys just check out all the pictures and we will see you soon. We should have some new videos up once Michelle gets back from her honeymoon!
So yeah, the Dolphins season ended officially last week. It was a blower and it sucked losing to an AFC East rival and a team that is well… not very good. This season has been very trying for Dolphins fans everywhere but I think we at Dolfans NYC have had it a bit easier than most. We have each other.
As much as the game sucked last week I think we as a group had a lot of fun. Buffalo Trace Bourbon threw us a party with a “Shoot the Buffalo” theme. They had 300 wings on hand and a lot of free and cheap Bourbon for everyone. We raffled off a Anthony Fasano & Joey Haynos autographed football and a Larry Csonka autographed football. Along with donations for the food we raised $200 for the I Will Foundation and had some money left over to add to our Dolfans NYC war chest for the off season.
Now this weekend coming up we have the Detroit Lions. This is our chance to get at least one more win at home and make all the Dolfans NYC fans back in Miami for Christmas happy. This is a try out for all the players on this team that are on the borderline of returning next year. Henne is going to continue to start the next two games so this will be a big test for him to see if he can show at least something that will make us think he is worth keeping around. These games are important even if they won’t help us play past January 2nd.
We are out of the playoffs playing an NFC team, who is terrible, the day after Christmas. I have a feeling Third & Long is not exactly going to be packed. I know Michelle, Alex and I are all going to be out of town. Still I know there will be some people in town for the holidays who have never been to Third & Long looking for some people to watch the game with so I hope a lot of you come out. I know the die hards will be there and hopefully there will be a decent crowd anyway. I’ll be back for the Patriots game to end the season and I don’t want to hear from Curtis that the bar was dead!
So that’s all I got for you this week. Check out the photos below and I will see you guys next week. Go Dolphins!
Dolfans NYC rode in to the belly of the beast last weekend. It is our third group to the Meadowlands to watch our Dolphins take on the New York Jets. The first year there were only a few of us. Last year we had about a dozen… This year we bought 63 tickets to the game and held a huge tailgate with tons of Dolphins fans from all over the greater New York area. The size of the group may be different but the results have been the same time. Dolfans NYC has walked out of that stadium with a victory.
When we showed up to Giants Stadium at 11:30 in the morning it was pouring rain. We had bought a little tent but the wind was blowing so hard we didn’t have any idea how we were going to set it up. We had a bunch of meat in the car that was getting warm so I got out and put everything into these cheap coolers we bought. The first cooler ripped to bits when I dropped the ice in and started blowing away. After a fierce struggle I got everything into the other cooler and returned to the car freezing and completely soaked. Around 12 another car showed up and the rain had let up a little bit. They were ready to face the elements so we tried to set up this tent tying the thing to the cars with ribbon that Michelle bought to hang up balloons. It was a very haphazard set up but it was good enough to get the grill set up. When the wind picked up a few minutes later the tent almost blew away but we held it down until the wind actually bent the poles so badly that we had to throw the thing away after the tailgate. At some point the rain slowed to a drizzle and a bunch more Dolphins fans showed up and we had ourselves a party.
Thanks to Buffalo Trace Bourbon for providing us with a lot of free booze for the tailgate!
The game itself was a mess but I had 16 tickets in my section and we just happened to luck out and were sitting with another handful of Phins fans. We had some very big dudes with us and some very drunk dudes with us and we just ruined the game for every Jets fan around us and that is exactly what we came to do. In the end the Dolphins won and we were completely drenched and freezing, but we couldn’t be more content as we walked out of Giants Stadium singing the Dolphins fight song.
Ps. Check back tomorrow for info about the big party this weekend at Third & Long! Raffles, free Buffalo wings and serious drink specials from Buffalo Trace!
Third and Long was probably the least crowded it has been all year, that is to say it was only kinda packed. The holiday weekend and the Bears drubbing thinned the heard a little bit but there was still a big crowd and we had as much fun as we have had all year. The Dolphins finally won a game convincingly and we had a blast.
Now usually I get these pictures up earlier than this and when we win I try to get them up right away but I was so busy because I had to go out of town. Where did I go? Miami. I am working as a photographer covering the Art Basel art fair in Miami and then going to the Dolphins game on Sunday. I will have more on that later but the important thing to know for this story is that I grabbed the wrong USB cord and I could not get the pictures from last Sunday off my camera. After shooting Basel for two days I HAD to turn in pictures to my editors at the Village Voice and the Miami New Times. At 5 am I went to Wallgreens and they didn’t have a USB cord so I went to CVS. CVS didn’t have them either. I was sort of panicked. I needed to get images to them by the morning or I might not get paid. I was about to give up when I saw some Miami Dolphins bracelets on the counter and bought them. The clerk at CVS was pretty much the only guy in the store at 5 am and he was big Dolphins fan. I talked to him about how much we hated the Jets for a while and the I came up with an idea. I would buy a scanner, get out the USB cord and return it. He told me he would do me one better. He would open it, pull out the cord and let me take it with me and return it. He told me since I was a Dolphins fan he would trust me. I thanked him for saving my life and ran out to the car and grabbed my computer and transferred all the files in the store right there. The guy saved my ass. I gave him a Dolfans NYC wrist band and he told me he would come up to see the Dolphins play the Jets in NYC one year. He said he has always wanted to do it. This all just goes to show you that you can always count on the kindness of Dolphins fans.
Sorry. It is 6:15 am and I have slept two hours since I got to Miami two days ago. I am not sure that story really made sense as I am nodding out as I write it, but I just wanted to share that story with you guys before I went to sleep. Enjoy the pictures from Third & Long last Sunday below. Click to open them in a new window so you can download them. Go Dolphins!
Well, I was having a Happy Thanksgiving until the Jets just scored in the Thursday night game against the Bengals…
Anyway, last Thursday the Dolphins played a game that I don’t think anyone wants to remember. What I do want to remember is that Dolfans NYC threw a really fun party at Third & Long and raised over $500 for the Miami Dolphins Foundation. The bar was completely packed and up until the Dolphins actually took the field we were having a blast. It sort of went down hill after that….
