Tonight is Monday Night Football and in celebration today the 2015 #MetLifeTakeover video is here! The Dolphins might have lost the game but looking back in 10 years hopefully all we will remember is how much fun we had!
This video was shot by Greg Jeske and edited and hosted by Alex Bente. It featured interviews with Nat Moore, Tom Garfinkel, Andrew Abramson, Solo D, The Fintroopers and even Ace Ventura! Plus there is dancing… lots of dancing!
Thanks again to our sponsors Pabst Blue Ribbon, Sailor Jerry and AquaHydrate! Thanks to everyone who helped with the tailgate and everyone who helped with this video!
Honestly I don’t really know what else to say but watch the video and show it to everyone! Phins up!
This season has obviously been disappointing and Sunday was pretty much a disaster on the field but off the field we had a hell of a time. It’s hard to explain to someone who has never been to a #MetLifeTakeover but there is truly no better experience as a Miami Dolphins fan. Obviously I am a bit biased but when you get to tailgate with hundreds of fans and then all walk in and sit with 1000 Dolfans and make so much noise that you can hear us on TV even in a disaster of a game it’s the greatest feeling in the world.
In the fourth quarter we were getting killed and for some reason most of the Jets fans had already left the game. A lot of Dolphins fans had left too, but our section was still filled with a ton of die hards. The Dolphins scored and we sang the fight song as loud as we could. We then recovered and onside kick and were cheering like crazy. Then, the Dolphins being the Dolphins, we fumbled the ball and the few remaining Jets fans started laughing at us. I turned to our remaining crowd and started chanting “Let’s Go Dolphins” as loud as I could. The rest of crew joined me and all you could hear was “Let’s Go Dolphins” despite just turning over the ball on the fourth quarter of a blow out. It was one of my proudest moments as a Dolphins fan.
It’s easy to be a fan when you are winning. It takes something special to root for your team when you are terrible. Reshad Jones Tweeted “When you winning, everyone is your friend, it’s easy to be on the wagon, so a SPECIAL shout-out to the ride or die fans!!” and we showed everyone we are out here riding for our team!
Now, about the tailgate!
We had a blast! Our four busses made it to the tailgate by 9am so we had hours to party. DJ Tropic DJ’d the whole thing which really upped the game from the last few years. Solo D and his Miami Sports Music/ DWA crew perform. We had a catered tailgate and Pabst Blue Ribbon donated 600 beers! We had water from AqauHydrate and Sailor Jerry Rum & cider. We are so lucky to have such rad sponsors.
We raised nearly $3000 through donations and merch sales which when you add to the money we made at the #MetLifeTakeover Pre-Party was close to $5000 that we can donate charity for the weekend not including the money we made from ticket sales. Plus we had a ton of people bring toys to continue the toy drive we did from the night before. Really amazing. Thanks so much everyone!
We had some cool guests at the tailgate as well. Dolphins legend Nat Moore and CEO Tom Garfinkel showed up at the tailgate which is always awesome. They have been big supporters of what we do up here. We also had Andrew Abramson from the Palm Beach Post and Brent Grimes infamous wife Miko show up as well. Miko has come to all our tailgates and this is Andrew’s second one so I appreciate the support from them. We even had some Jets fans come by to talk some smack. But they are the guys responsible for flying banners over the Patriots practices to troll them so I guess they aren’t so terrible.
Anyway, it was a terrible game but another amazing experience. Let’s just hope next year’s Takeover isn’t on Thanksgiving so we can bring out even more Dolfans and get another win. Since the first big #MetLifeTakeover this is our only loss so I think we are doing pretty well overall. Phins up!
Now check out all the photos from the tailgate!
Okay we get it. The Dolphins aren’t good at football. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy the football season. We had a fantastic weekend here in NYC even if the last three hours of it were really terrible. Our weekend started off with a party at our bar Slattery’s Midtown Pub on Saturday. We invited our normal crew plus anyone who was in town for the game to a three hour meet and greet kinda thing and it was a ton of fun. We had people there from Indonesia, the UK, Canada and of course TON of people from Florida. It was a great turnout and we raised a lot of money.
We had DJ Tropic DJ and Solo D perform and of course we had a big raffle where we raised about $1000 for charity. On top of that we did a live auction to benefit the Dan Marino Foundation where we had a Marino signed ball go for $400 and a Cam Wake signed mini-helmet go for an insane $310. We decided to round up and we will be donating $1000 to the Dan Marino Foundation to help people with autism and other disabilities.
Lastly I just wanted to thank the Miami Dolphins, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Dolfans NYC member Rambo for donating items for the raffle and of course our volunteers for helping out! You guys rule.
Now check out some photos from the event! If you want to save an image you just have to double click it in the gallery and it will take you to the actual page on Flickr.
Just want to get this up quickly before the game and then I will come back and update with some more info. Just wanted everyone to know we are having a party next Saturday at Slattery’s Midtown Pub (8 East 36th St in Manhattan) from 4-7pm the night before the #MetLifeTakeover! We will have some really serious raffle prizes, tons of Dolfans NYC merch for sale and a live performance from Solo D. DJ Tropic will be DJing all evening as well and we should have some cool surprises in store.
It’s a great chance to meet fellow Dolfans before the game. Last year’s pre-party was a blast and Jay Fiedler showed up and signed some autographs. Don’t miss it!
Lastly, we are doing a toy drive so bring an unwrapped toy and we will give you two free drink tickets for the #MetLifeTakeover tailgate thanks to Pabst Blue Ribbon!
See you Saturday!
This is it! We are coming down to the wire. We have over 700 tickets sold already and another 100 that have told us they are going to pay soon so get your money in now!
On the 23rd we are going to stop ticket sales for the #MetLifeTakeover. After that date Michelle is going to be dealing with family stuff for Thanksgiving and then traveling up to NYC and won’t have time to deal with distributing tickets, so if you want to join us you only have a few more days to get your money in.
It’s also time to get your money in for the tailgate. Same deadline as the tickets. $25 includes a hot dog, a burger, pasta salad, chips, two beers care of Pabst Blue Ribbon and bottled water care of AquaHydrate. Plus Sailor Jerry is providing rum for hot cider. We did it last year and that went over pretty well given how cold and rainy it was. Hopefully the weather will be better this year. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to get your tailgate ticket.
There is also still an option to take a bus to the game from our bar Slattery’s Midtown Pub but we need to get final numbers in by noon on the 23rd so that is the absolute deadline to get your money in for that.
Here is the sign up link for the tickets and bus: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4faea72dabf94-dolphins1
But if you already have your ticket and you just need a tailgate ticket email email@example.com immediately!
Lastly, remember we are going to have a party the night before the game at Slattery’s so put that on your calendar, especially if you are coming from out of town. No details yet, but we should have them soon!
Hey guys! It’s not too late to sign up for the #MetLifeTakeover! I just wanted to post the info again so that people would see it right when they went to our site. We have over 600 people who have paid for tickets already! Should be an amazing time when the Dolphins come up to play the Jets!
We are also going to be doing a big tailgate and tickets for that will go on sale very soon. It will be $25 for food, water and a booze thanks to PBR, Sailor Jerry and Aqua Hydrate water. But more on that soon.
We are also going to be having a party the night before at our bar Slattery’s Midtown Pub, but more on that later as well. We are behind on everything because of Michelle’s move but don’t worry, we are on top of everything. See you guys soon.
Sign up here and get your money in as soon as Michelle emails you. Thanks & Phins up!
Okay Dolfans, you might have noticed that we didn’t update this site much during the off season but that doesn’t mean we aren’t working on a bunch of stuff in the mean time. There are enough Dolphins blogs out there that you don’t need our take on what’s going on, but as we get closer to week one I think it’s time for an update. We have a bunch of stuff going on this season so let’s go week by week.
- September 3rd – Preseason Game 4 against Tampa Bay:
- Our bar Slattery’s Midtown Pub IS showing the game. It’s the only nationally televised game and Dolfans NYC will be in the building, BUT there are events booked upstairs so it’s going to be more of a low key thing. Will be a fun time hanging out but not a real Dolfans NYC event. Game 4 of the preseason is always awful anyway.
- September 13th – Week 1 against Washington:
- Dolfans NYC is supporting our Dolfan brothers to the south NOVA Dolfans who are throwing the “DC Shutdown” a similar event to our #MetLifeTakeover. They are doing a party the night before as well with our buddy Solo D performing. You can get tickets and find out more info here.
- Because of our support for the DC Shutdown event we are not going to be throwing a huge party at Slattery’s like we normally do on week one. That’s not to say Slattery’s won’t be packed but we won’t be doing any raffles or anything like that. And don’t worry DJ Tropic will still be DJing.
- September 20th – Week 2 against Jacksonville:
- THIS is the big Slattery’s kick off party! We are going to be doing a bunch of raffles all game and will have brand new Dolfans NYC merch for sale and maybe a few surprises. You should be at Slattery’s every week, but Week 2 is going to be a big one!
- October 4th – Week 4 against the Jets in London:
- This game starts at 9:30am! Slattery’s will be open at 8am and we will be doing breakfast. We will have bagels and coffee and I am sure some drink specials like Bloody Mary’s. Should be a really fun event.
- October 25th – Week 7 against Houston:
- This is the second annual Fan Club Weekend in Miami. A huge crew of Dolfans NYC members are traveling to Miami for the game to meet up with fan clubs across the country (and world)! You can still get tickets to sit with us if you guys want to go. Just email firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject “Fan Club Weekend” for details!
- November 29th – 2015 #MetLifeTakeover
- This is the big one! Our infamous #MetLifeTakeover! Last year we had 1200 Dolfans sitting together and I would love to see us beat that this year. We are doing a big catered tailgate with entertainment and food and it should be an amazing time. We are really blowing it up this year! Plus there will be a party at Slattery’s the night before. So get ready for a hell of a weekend!
- SIGN UP FOR THE TAKEOVER HERE!!
I admit I have done a terrible job updating this website. We had a draft party at Slattery’s and I promoted it via Facebook and Twitter but I totally forgot to do an update on the website. The party was a great success and it seems like our draft could be something pretty special as well. Just getting Mike Hull as an UDFA seems like a huge steal not to mention Jay Ajayi in the fifth round and having Parker on the board in the first without having to trade up to get him. All good things.
It might be years before we figure out how this draft really looks, but we don’t have to wait long to get tickets for the next #MetLifeTakeover!
The game is November 29th which happens to be Thanksgiving weekend for the third year in a row. That’s obviously a pain for some people traveling for the holiday but at least it’s a day game this year!
We have created a sign up page to RSVP for tickets. We are essentially using this sign up as a way to explain the process and create a mailing list so as soon as we have tickets in our hands we can start selling them to you guys.
This year we are going to be giving out the best seats first so the sooner you get your money in the better your seats. Usually Michelle agonizes on the seating charts but this year it’s just first come first serve so sign up and then as soon as you get an email from us get us money!
This year the seats are slightly more expensive because the game is a Sunday. Apparently Monday Night Football is a little less attractive since people have jobs and stuff. So tickets are $65. Sunday game also means we are going to do a proper tailgate but that info will come later. You’ll be able to spend like $10-20 and not have to worry about anything. We just need to figure out the logistics and that probably won’t happen until the season actually starts.
There is also an option to get a seat on our charter bus that will leave from Slattery’s before the game and come back after. That’s always a fun experience if you have done it with us in the past. Nothing like sitting on a bus packed with Phins fans after a win. The seat on the bus is $25 which is only about $10 than the buses from Penn Station and you don’t have to wait in a line with Jets fans.
So anyway, sign up now and as soon as we buy the tickets we will send you an email. Phins up!
It took a bit too long to get these to you, but we are very happy with the results. We ended up making two different videos highlighting our 2014 #MetLifeTakeover events.
The first video is from the pre-party we did at Slattery’s Midtown Pub. It features interviews with Jay Fiedler, Solo D and my partner in Dolfan crime Michelle. Plus the whole thing is essentially a music video for the Dolfans NYC theme song that Solo D recorded for us. It gives you a good idea of the party we through the day before the #MetLifeTakeover. It was great day and we packed the bar with Phins fans from all over the place and the Dolphins weren’t even playing! Thanks to Jay Fiedler and the Dolphins for coming out, DJ Tropic for DJing, Solo D for performing and everyone who bid on our raffle and auction items! We raised a ton of money for charity.
Oh, and make sure you stick around for the credits!
The second video I am really proud of and I know we are going to use it to recruit people for the #MetLifeTakeover next year! Despite the pouring freezing rain we still had 1200 people with us at the Jets game last December 1st and this video shows our impact in the stands. You could hear us loudly on TV and now you can see why if you missed the event. The tailgate was great and we actually got some decent footage despite having to scrap a bunch of our video plans because of the rain. Our camera guy could only shoot so much. Thanks to Miko Grimes and Andrew Abramson for stopping by and thanks to everyone who brought food and helped us tailgate! Big thanks to AquaHydrate for providing all the rally towels (and a ton of water) and thanks to Sailor Jerry for the rum that we made rum cider with. O
And again, the credits are worth watching on this one too!
I also have to thank Alex Bente and Greg Jeske for producing this video for us. Alex has been our host year after year despite his loyalty to the Ravens and Greg killed it both shooting and editing this video for us.
And lastly thanks to everyone who came and helped out at the #MetLifeTakeover. Share these videos everywhere and see you guys at the next #MetLifeTakeover!!
