2017 #MetLifeTakeover Video!

Thursday, October 19th, 2017

Every year we try to up the #MetLifeTakeover and so every year we try and raise the level of our annual #MetLifeTakeover video. It was pretty hard to outdo the last video, which was hosted by Dolphins legend Sam Madison, but I think we may have done it!

This year the #MetLifeTakoever was really on another level. Thanks to an early season game we had one of our biggest crowds with over 1100 people and thanks to our partnership with Urban Tailgate the party in the parking lot was out of control.

Both of the video teams from the last few years were unavailable and we sort of scrambled at the last minute to find a crew. Fortunately Curtis over at RizeOptix was recommended to us by one of our Twitter followers. He absolutely killed it with the video with a lot of help from our host Oscar Collazos. Oscar is a die hard Dolphins fan who happens to be a professional comedian. With no Dolphin royalty available to host Oscar was the perfect choice for the video and he did a fantastic job.

This video features interviews with former Dolphins Nat Moore & Joe Rose as well as Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkel and Dolphins SVP of Communications & Community Affairs Jason Jenkins. Jason has actually been to every single #MetLifeTakeover and seems to really support what we are doing. There’s also an interview with Brian Miller who runs PhinPhanatic.com and did a series of stories about the #MetLifeTakeover. He also has been uploading virtual reality video to his new YouTube channel Phinatics360.

Also in the video is footage from our pre-party at Slattery’s Midtown Pub the night before and a performance from SoLo D. Every time I watch our video I get his song “Hit Squad” stuck in my head. I also need to give a shout out to DJ Tropic for DJing both parties and Sailor Jerry for sponsoring the tailgate.

Lastly, and probably most importantly I just wanted to thank everyone who came to the takeover, came to the tailgate, bought a raffle ticket, bought a t-shirt or just threw a couple dollar bills into a bucket at one of our weekly meet ups at Slattery’s. Because of you guys we have been able to donate $13,750 to charity this year and don’t think we are done giving. Just today we donated to Koa Misi’s CA wildfire fundraiser and we plan on doing more with Dolfans who live in Northern California.

We will have a full breakdown of everything we have donated at the end of the season but here’s an overview: We have donated $7000 to the Miami Dolphins Foundation, $2000 to the Dolphins Cycling Challenge, $1000 to RISE, $900 to cancer research charities, $2300 for various disaster relief efforts and several hundred dollars to our own members in need.

Okay, enough rambling. Let’s watch the 2017 #MetLifeTakeover video!

The 2014 #MetLifeTakeover Videos Are Here!

Thursday, February 19th, 2015

It took a bit too long to get these to you, but we are very happy with the results. We ended up making two different videos highlighting our 2014 #MetLifeTakeover events.

The first video is from the pre-party we did at Slattery’s Midtown Pub. It features interviews with Jay Fiedler, Solo D and my partner in Dolfan crime Michelle. Plus the whole thing is essentially a music video for the Dolfans NYC theme song that Solo D recorded for us. It gives you a good idea of the party we through the day before the #MetLifeTakeover. It was great day and we packed the bar with Phins fans from all over the place and the Dolphins weren’t even playing! Thanks to Jay Fiedler and the Dolphins for coming out, DJ Tropic for DJing, Solo D for performing and everyone who bid on our raffle and auction items! We raised a ton of money for charity.

Oh, and make sure you stick around for the credits!

The second video I am really proud of and I know we are going to use it to recruit people for the #MetLifeTakeover next year! Despite the pouring freezing rain we still had 1200 people with us at the Jets game last December 1st and this video shows our impact in the stands. You could hear us loudly on TV and now you can see why if you missed the event. The tailgate was great and we actually got some decent footage despite having to scrap a bunch of our video plans because of the rain. Our camera guy could only shoot so much. Thanks to Miko Grimes and Andrew Abramson for stopping by and thanks to everyone who brought food and helped us tailgate! Big thanks to AquaHydrate for providing all the rally towels (and a ton of water) and thanks to Sailor Jerry for the rum that we made rum cider with.  O

And again, the credits are worth watching on this one too!

I also have to thank Alex Bente and Greg Jeske for producing this video for us. Alex has been our host year after year despite his loyalty to the Ravens and Greg killed it both shooting and editing this video for us.

And lastly thanks to everyone who came and helped out at the #MetLifeTakeover. Share these videos everywhere and see you guys at the next #MetLifeTakeover!!

Apparently Football Continues

Friday, September 19th, 2014

Despite the loss to the Bills last week that smashed all hope of a successful season right out of my brain, they keep playing football games. Losing the game was bad but losing Moreno for an extended period of time was worse and the way the oline played was icing on the cake of the terrible day. After beating the Pats with our o-line playing great and Moreno destroying things I had dreams that this team was better than average. Well the Bills put an end to that.

Now of course it’s only one game and this team is certainly capable of winning a bunch more this season, but it took me until Thursday to move past Sunday and if we beat the Chiefs on Sunday everything will be wonderful again. That’s just how sports work.

So, this post is pretty much just a post for posts sake. It’s a reminder that the game is at 4:25pm on Sunday and we will be rocking Slattery’s Midtown Pub as always. It’s a reminder to get your money in for the #MetLifeTakeover. It’s a reminder that you should buy stuff from our web store and it’s a reminder that this club has done a great job raising money for charity and our next big fundraiser is a week from Sunday when the Phins play the Raiders in London. Save your money because it’s gonna be a great event.

Oh, and if you are in Miami this weekend remember to wear aqua for the “Aqua Out” and make some damn noise!

Back To Buffalo

Wednesday, September 10th, 2014

Power rankings don’t matter. What ESPN thinks of the Dolphins doesn’t matter. How much space Peter King gives to Phins coverage doesn’t matter. None of this media stuff matters… but it sure is fun. It’s only Wednesday and I have probably spent four or five hours just reading about the Dolphins and it’s been great. I thought this team was mediocre and at the end of the year maybe they will be but this win gives such hope for a really fun season and beating the Bills is a BIG step towards that.

Last year I was at BOTH Bills games. I was down in Miami sitting in the CEO’s skybox sitting next to Luther Campbell as the Dolphins played just poorly enough to lose the game to a back up QB. It was devastating. A couple months later the Dolphins just need to beat the Bills to get in to two the playoffs so I drive about 10 hours in a freezing rain storm to Buffalo in December. The entire miserable game is spent in a downpour of freezing rain and the Dolphins get destroyed and I spend another 7 hours driving straight back to NYC.

So this is a big moment. Yes it’s only the second game but winning this game against the Bills (and their starting QB) would show how far we have come from last year and it would put us in sole possession of the #1 spot in the AFC East by virtue of us playing two division games even if the Jets beat Green Bay (which I don’t see happening). Winning these division games is going to be so big this year with New England looking beatable an a win at Buffalo will do huge things for our media attention.

When the year started I was hoping for a 2-2 record before the bye. I figured if we did that we would have a week off and we could get Pouncey, Jones and Jordan back. Well right now I am looking at the Dolphins schedule and if we beat Buffalo I see no reason why we shouldn’t be undefeated heading into the bye week. The Raiders look like absolute trash and the Chiefs are decimated with injuries. Obviously I am way ahead of myself but that’s the whole point… when you win a game like we won on Sunday you get to enjoy stuff like this. You get to enjoy reading the article and you get to enjoy looking ahead. We all know the Dolphins love to disappoint us, just look at last year, but for the moment let’s take the time to enjoy the victory and if we beat Buffalo it’s going to get a lot better.

Now, the important stuff! With our cut of the bar last week we ended up raising $1500. That’s going to go a long way towards our charitable donations AND a pretty cool surprise leading up to the #MetLifeTakeover. Putting in an order tomorrow for some merch that I think you guys are going to really like and that we are going to be able to sell very cheaply.

In the mean time, you can get Dolfans NYC merch from our new e-shop and when you visit Slattery’s Midtown Pub. This Sunday Michelle is out of town (although there’s a chance she might be back) so I am not sure if we are going to be selling anything this week but normally we will. I might just sell one color shirt or something to make it easy on myself.

The other thing I need to mention is that we have over 1000 people signed up for the #MetLifeTakeover and over 500 who have paid. We only have about 800 seats reserved so get your money in ASAP. We should be able to buy another section but we can’t promise anything so make sure you send in your money now! If you haven’t signed up it’s not too late… just make sure you pay for your tickets as soon as you get the email telling you how. So sign up now!

And lastly, if anyone is going to Buffalo there is a Bills Vs Dolphins tailgate that was a ton of fun last year. You hang out with a bunch of Phins fans in the middle of a giant Bills tailgate. As much as I hate the Bills, their fans are pretty amazing and they appreciate die hard fans. Now, you get a few beers in them and they start throwing batteries at you, but before the game it was pretty civil and a lot of fun. Check out the Facebook invite for details.

Now, with all of that out of the way, please take the time to enjoy victory week starting with this video… Love to see those morons Bayless and Smith lose their minds.

Introducing The Dolfans NYC Web Store!

Saturday, September 6th, 2014

The first game of the year is tomorrow and I know everyone could not be more excited. I will probably get about two hours of sleep tonight. It’s like Christmas morning for adults! Slattery’s is going to be rocking tomorrow so make sure you get there early! The bar will be open at 11! It’s going to be amazing and in celebration of opening day we are launching the Dolfans NYC E-Shop!

As long as there has been a Dolfans NYC logo people have wanted t-shirts with that logo on it so of course we made t-shirts. Of course when that happened people who didn’t live in NYC wanted the shirts. For years we have said that the shirts were only available at Dolfans NYC events because we wanted people to have a reason to come to our watch parties. That was partly true, but the real reason is that I hate going to the post office and didn’t want to deal with any of the shipping. Michelle has a full time job and a baby and I run my own business. We just simply don’t have time to ship stuff.

Fortunately we found a solution! A friend of mine for nearly 20 years runs a small record label and record distribution company called Handstand Records and I pitched him the idea of selling some Dolfans NYC stuff for us. He is sending out shipments every day already and was open to the idea of selling our gear. Not only that but he built the web store for us!

So now you can get Dolfans NYC T-shirts anywhere in the world! (Looking at you Belgium!) Plus we have some new stuff this year like tote bags! Ooh! When it gets a little colder we plan on making some sweat shirts and reprinting the very popular Dolfans NYC beanies, plus we have some surprises in store! So keep checking back!

And remember all the money we make (after Handstand’s cut) goes back to the Dolfans NYC war chest which is used to buy more merchandise, throw bigger and better events and most importantly donate money to charity! We have donated nearly $10,000 to the Miami Dolphins Foundation alone! So spend some money, get some cool stuff and do some good!

So click here already and visit the Dolfans NYC Web Store!!

NYC Are You Ready For Week One?

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014

Dolfans NYCHey Dolphins fans! The season starts in two days. I can’t even believe it! This is probably the best team of the Philbin era so I am hoping we have a great year. At the very least I know Dolfans NYC are going to have a lot of fun at Slattery’s Midtown Pub and Sunday will be no exception.

On the football side, I am a bit nervous about going up against the Patriots week one, but last time we played them we beat them so I am hoping week 1 will be no different. We got the heat on our side and our defensive line should put a hurting on Tom Brady… but they are still the Patriots and until we prove otherwise they are still the favorites to win this game.

But this week at Slattery’s is going to be a party no matter what! Make sure you get there early! The bar opens at 11am and it is sure to be packed! The bar has more TVs this year, updated menu and specials on food and drinks. Plus we will be giving out discount cards f0r 10% off any time you come back to the bar not during a Dolphins game!

We are going to have DJ Tropic DJing EVERY game this year. If you made it out to one of our prime time games last year you know how much fun it’s going to be with him DJing. And don’t worry, he only DJ’s during the commercials and half time. We will still have the sound on the game.

Make sure to bring your wallets! We are having our biggest raffle ever this Sunday! The prizes are a surprise but there will be three prizes drawn every quarter and a 13th prize will be drawn at the end of the game and we can give that one away… it’s a signed Dan Marino ball! Plus everyone who wins will be given a Dolphins autographed commemorative ticket in addition to their prize! We have some pretty serious prizes picked out!

We also have all new merch this year! We ended up buying a bunch of shirts from a t-shirt company that went out of business so we have some very nice shirts, including some blue ones. We also have black shirts for the first time ever and we have tote bags! Oooh! In addition we have more merch planned for later in the season when it gets cold so be on the look out for that every Sunday at Slattery’s.

And remember, all the money we raise gets split between charitable causes and more great Dolfans NYC merch and events! We have raised more than $20,000 for charity in the last few years!

I will be taking photos for the website this week and we have some other surprises in store for you guys both this week and for later in the season. It should be pretty epic this year and the Dolphins are working with us more than ever to insure that Dolfans NYC will be better and better. Can’t wait to see you guys on Sunday! Phins up!

2013 Wrap Up, #MetlifeTakeover Video & Super Bowl Plans

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

So things have not gone so well since I last updated. We lost back to back games including one to our hated rivals the Jets and one where I drove 8 hours to Buffalo to watch us get killed in freezing rain… at least I had great seats. We also had this great video from the #MetlifeTakeover but it wasn’t edited and ready to go until after the season was already over. Since then there has been a disastrous GM search and a Super Bowl in our city that I can’t even pretend to get excited about.

That being said, 2013 was a truly great year for Dolfans NYC. We found a new and improved home at Slattery’s Midtown Pub, raised thousands of dollars for various charities, threw the biggest away fan takeover in MetLife Stadium history and grew Dolfans NYC into a serious force in Dolphins fandom. The Dolphins new CEO even invited Michelle and I to watch a game in his box at SunLife. On top of that we really have created a family and even in horrible losses it’s been amazing to be around so many awesome Dolphins fans. There’s no place I would rather be than Slattery’s on Sunday and it makes the wins so much better and the losses sting a lot less.

This year we donated $3000 to the Miami Dolphins Foundation, sponsored two riders in the Dolphins Cycling Challenge, donated several hundred dollars to a breast cancer charity in October and made Christmas a lot better for two Dolphins fans who were injured in the Metro North train crash on the way to the #MetlifeTakeover. We also have raised a significant amount of money that’s sitting in the bank for next year. This money will be used to make more t-shirts, buy more prizes for our fund raising raffles and to make future charitable donations. This fundraising we do is truly the best thing about this for us. It means so much to be able to do something positive and have all this fun at the same time.

Michelle and I (and our many volunteers!) spend so much time on Dolfans NYC and people constantly thank us for all our work… but the truth is, we don’t need to be thanked. All this work is selfish. We do this because we want to have the best experience possible when watching Dolphins games and being able to watch every Sunday with 200+ passionate Dolphins fans or go to the Jets game with 760 of you guys is worth all the time and energy. So in reality I want to thank you guys for coming out and supporting what we do at Dolfans NYC!

Anyway, the Super Bowl is in NYC and I haven’t even checked out any of the events going on. So many Miami people are in town and I haven’t even gone down to Super Bowl Row. I feel like we should be doing more but Michelle is about to have a human child pop out of her and I am busy with work BUT, I just wanted to let everyone know that Slattery’s is going to be doing a big event for the Super Bowl.

Slattery’s is doing a $75 top shelf open bar with free appetizers upstairs  but it’s only $50 if you are wearing Dolphins colors! You can also watch the big game downstairs without having to pay for the open bar. Just pay as you go. I would love to watch the game with a bunch of Dolphins fans so let us know over on our Facebook page if you want to attend. Thanks!

Lastly, I wanted to finally get up our #Metlifetakeover video. This thing is so cool and I posted it on Facebook and Twitter but I never posted it on our actual page. I hope you guys get a chance to watch it because I really love this video. Thanks to Alex Bente and his crew for filming and editing this! Also thanks again to Sailor Jerry and PBR for sponsoring our tailgate.

Dolfans NYC Halloween Party Pix!

Sunday, November 3rd, 2013

On Thursday Dolfans NYC threw a big Halloween party and the Dolphins won in miraculous fashion as Cam Wake sealed the game with only the third overtime safety in NFL history. Another great half was wasted with another poor third quarter but Ryan Tannehill made the plays he had to make to lead the team to a game tying field goal with seconds left in regulation. When the safety happened Slattery’s Midtown Pub erupted and we had free shots all around. The Dolphins broke the Bengals winning streak and ended their own losing streak and we partied.

We had DJ Tropic DJ again and he killed it all night. We had a costume contest as the three finalists battled it out via Instagram to see who would get the most likes. Mr. McGibblets out beat Ricky Williams by one vote and Joe Philbin came in a distant third. I loved the Philbin costume but after four straight losses he didn’t get a lot of love. My pajama wearing “Tired Of Losing” costume got the most votes but of course I was not eligible and Mr. McGibblets walked away with a hat signed by OJ McDuffie and Sam Madison. Mr. McGibblets also promised he would be coming to our #MetLifeTakeover on Dec 1st in full costume!

The next Dolphins game is a Monday night game against the Bucs and we will be having DJ Tropic in the house again as well as a huge raffle. We also will have our new DolfansNYC hats for sale again. I hope you guys get a chance to pick one up. Hope to see you guys then.

And lastly, before we get to the pictures I wanted you guys to check this video from the “Miami Dolphins Web Weekend” that the Dolphins posted on their site. DolfansNYC got a lot of love in it and special mention of the $3000 we donated to the Miami Dolphins Foundation. Thanks to you guys for our opportunity to do so much in the way of charitable donations!

Now check out the Halloween party photos from Slattery’s Midtown Pub below. Double click to open em in a new window so you can save them to your computer!

Monday Night Photos

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013

On Monday we had a huge party at Slattery’s Midtown Pub! The Dolphins were playing great football for 28 minutes before it all went to hell right before the two minute warning, but such is life. It’s a long season and you aren’t going to win every game. Fortunately, even with the loss Dolfans NYC had a great time. We had one of our original founding members DJ Tropic spin during commercials and it worked out really well. Even late in the game we were at least enjoying the music, food and the company. People stuck around and even celebrated and sang the fight song on the garbage time TD. I also noticed a ton of rational positivity on our Facebook page. It’s great to be around Phins fans who aren’t screaming Fireland this and Tannehill sucks that. I really love this group.

Both floors of the bar were packed. It’s great to see so many people show up when the game is on TV. We have really made an event of it. We had a big raffle and sold t-shirts and ended up raising over $1200 for charity. It was really amazing. The two big prizes in the raffle were a Bob Griese signed hat and another hat signed by Tannehill, Hartline, Jimmy Wilson and Austin Spitler. Two cool things happened with that. Our member Bryan who had donated the Tannehill/Hartline hat actually won the Griese hat. It was great to see since not only has he been a big supporter of the club but he also lost 90% of his Dolphins memorabilia collection in Hurricane Sandy last year. The other cool thing was that Austin Spitler got resigned today so all four people who signed the hat are actually still on the Phins.

Anyway, I took a bunch of pictures, even after we were getting beat on pretty badly. I hope you guys dig them. If you want to save one just double click the gallery below and it will take you directly to our Flickr page. Phins up!
