So What’s Next?

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

We have been suspiciously silent over here at Dolfans NYC and I figured I had to write an update of sorts. There has been so much Dolphins news of late it’s hard to keep up! I could talk to you for hours about the exciting new offensive acquisitions of Mike Wallace and Dustin Keller or the revamping of the linebackers or my disappointment at losing both Jake Long and Sean Smith. But all that stuff has been covered to death.

I could talk about our needs but I think it’s pretty obvious to everyone that we have big holes on the offensive line and in the secondary and if you guys are paying enough attention you know the names that are still out there in free agency (Winston & Grimes come to mind). I could talk about the draft but I watch about three college games a year and could bring nothing to the conversation. So what can I talk about? How about some Dolfans NYC business!

We have some big things planned for the draft. We are going to do a huge meet up and roll to the draft in force. Last year we got on TV when Tannehill was picked and hopefully we can do it again this year. Show the Dolphins that they have love in Jets country. We will of course update the site when we have firm draft plans, but if you want to get notified about the draft send us an email at dolfansnyc@gmail.com and we will put you on our draft mailing list. We also might be trying to organize something with Mike Wallace for the weekend of the draft but we have to keep all the details top secret for now but if that’s something you would be interested in, email us about that as well.

I also should probably say something about the new logo rumors. Everything I have heard from my source leads me to believe that this could in fact be the logo. I got two messages the day of the leak that lead me to believe the Dolphins are upset that it’s out there. I never thought our leaking what we thought was a draft of the Dolphins logo would turn into a big thing, but whatever the case I hope it doesn’t hurt any of the Dolphins plans.

Speaking of the logo, we need to make new Dolfans NYC shirts and although I wanted them for the draft, I think we might have to wait until after. I want to do a new Dolfans NYC logo when the new logo comes out. That way people who have the old shirt might want to buy a new one with the new logo. Logo changes are all about selling merch and since we are always trying to raise more and more money for charity this seems like a perfect opportunity. If anyone has any new ideas for raising money for charity let us know. We are always looking for new fundraising ideas. Raising money for the Miami Dolphins Foundation is not only a good cause, but it shows the Dolphins we are doing positive things and it makes them want to support us as a club. It’s a win win for everyone.

Anyway, that’s it for now and I hope to update the site more often as we get ready for the draft! Go Dolphins!

Dolfans NYC At The NFL Draft Video!

Friday, June 8th, 2012

As you may know Dolfans NYC brings a huge group of Phins fans to the NFL Draft every year. It’s a great chance to hang out with our club in the off season, meet new local Phins fans and help protect out of towners from these asshole Jets fans. This year we made a video and it features some interviews with fan club members, Jets taunting and a clip of us on the NFL Network when Tannehill was picked. It’s a pretty cool video and the first video I have shot with my new camera the Nikon D800. Enjoy!

Dolfans NYC At The Draft!

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Hey guys!

Thank you for your patience while we sorted out our plans to attend Round 1 of the Draft. Looks like the NFL is organizing wristbands/tix the same way they did last year. On Wednesday, fans line up in the evening and the NFL says that they will give wristbands at midnight. (last year they did it a little sooner). On Thursday, fans with wristbands line up and are given their tix a little after 6pm.
With that said, here is the DolfansNYC meet-up plan….
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25th – Meet at 8:00pm on 6th Avenue between 49th and 50th. There is a giant fountain on the west side of the street. Let’s meet in front of the fountain in the middle of the block. At approximately 8:10pm, the group will walk across the street to Radio City so that we can line up together, so please don’t be late. The security guards are pretty strict and don’t usually let people jump in line with their friends, so it’s best we walk over together.

THURSDAY, APRIL 26th – Meet at 6:00pm at the same spot in front of the fountain. At 6:10pm we will walk over together to line up and get our tix. Again, please do not be late.

Please reply to this e-mail if you 100% know that you will be there so we can make a list of how many people to expect at the meet-up spot. We will have access to Facebook and e-mail, so if your plans change and you can’t make it or are running late, please post something on the DolfansNYC Facebook page or send a note to us here at dolfansnyc@gmail.com

Thanks and see you Wednesday!!

Dolfans NYC Draft Party Pictures!

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

First of all let me apologize for not getting these pictures up sooner. I have been out of town a lot and Short Michelle and Alex are busy planning their wedding next weekend. Combine that with the lockout and a less than exciting first round pick and it all adds up to me posting this weeks late.  Sorry.

I also want to say that when I say less than exciting about Mike Pouncey only mean that being a lineman isn’t exactly someone you spend a lot of time watching highlights of. I am pretty happy with the pick and the draft over all. Let’s just hope we can improve our back field in the off season.

The Dolfans NYC turnout was a little low this year as was the turnout of the draft in general. It rained the night before when we had to wait in line, and of course the lockout thing, so pretty much just the die hard football fans showed up. A lot of the Dolfans NYC die hards had to work too. But even after all that we still had a pretty good turn out and filled up an entire row of the draft.  We brought along ALRIGHT MIAMI signs for Jim Mandich and even got Roger Godell to hold one up for us. Mad Dog had just died and we wanted to try to get out signs on TV to show our love and express the sadness of Dolphins fans everywhere.  Luckily we made it on both NFL Network and on ESPN!

Anyway, we all had a blast, and I think it’s too late to give a draft wrap up, so why don’t you guys just check out all the pictures and we will see you soon. We should have some new videos up once Michelle gets back from her honeymoon!

Dolfans NYC Draft Event

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Sorry we have been distant.  This lockout is getting to us!  But we have some details about our most exciting draft event.  Dolfans NYC is going to roll deep and we want you to come with us!

Though there is some uncertainty as far as the upcoming season, the show must go on. And in this case, the show is the 2011 NFL Draft! The Dolphins have the 15th pick and it’s anyone’s guess as to what they plan on doing with it. All we know is that we want to get everyone together to see it happen!! Who’s in?!?!

Here’s the deal….

WEDNESDAY, April 27th – Fans can line up at Radio City Music Hall starting at 10pm. At midnight, wristbands will be given at a first come, first served basis.

THURSDAY, April 28th – Fans with a wristband can line up at 6:00pm to receive their tickets. Please note that tickets have seating assignments on them, so the plan is for us all to go together!

So….on Wednesday, let’s meet up at 8pm, which should be early enough to get a good spot in line. For anyone who has been to the Draft before, it’s nearly impossible to join your friends once they line up, so it’s important that we all line up together. Radio City is on 50th and 6th. There’s a Magnolia Bakery on the corner of 49th and 6th. Let’s meet there at 8:00pm and walk over together to line up.

On Thursday, let’s meet up at that same Magnolia Bakery at 6:15pm so we can walk over and get tickets with seats together. The tickets are given out in a random order so showing up early doesn’t give you an advantage. We aren’t meeting up until 6:15 to give every one a chance to get to midtown after work.

For anyone who wants to meet up once inside Radio City, please check our Facebook and Twitter pages. We will post where we are sitting.

Please email us if you plan on joining, so we have a good idea of how many people to expect. If you do attend, please don’t forget to bring your Phins gear! (towels, flags, banners, etc).

Go Dolphins!!

Combine

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Well it has been a minute since I hit you guys up.  Things are pretty slow this off season.  The combine is happening right now, but I haven’t been paying all that much attention. Most people say the Phins are looking at Rolando McLain or Dez Bryant.  There are also rumors that we are looking at stealing Karlos Dansby away from the Cardinals and possibly trading with the Cardinals for Anquan Boldin.  If we pulled off either of the Cards deals then our draft might look pretty different.  The one guy I am obsessed with in the draft is Eric Barry.  He is just the type of playmaking safety we need and having him back there with our two young corners would solve our secondary problems for years.  Unfortunately I don’t think he could possibly fall to us, but honestly with a lot of people trying to trade down, he might be worth trading up for. We also need a nose tackle since we have no shot at Vince Wilfork who was my #1 off season dream.  It’s pretty likely we will pick up a nose in the second round if anyone is still available.

If we could get Dansby and Boldin our main needs would be a nose and a safety.  We could also use another outside linebacker or two if we don’t resign JT, which we better.

Anyway, I have some planned updates for the next few weeks, so check back and pretty soon we are going to start working on our draft party plans.  It’s all pretty exciting.

In the mean time, check out this amazing Sports Illustrated article from 1984 on Dan Marino.  It talks about how he is a pretty boy icon and discusses things that will be really relevant in the coming years like his bad knees.  It aslo talks about how he really wanted to get some big sponsors which I always wondered about.  Dan was advertising gloves and Blockbuster but he never really had a big shoe contract or a drink sponsor which was very confusing to me.  He should have been on Nike and Pepsi ads.  I wonder why that never happened. He did have Upper Deck which was cool growing up and collecting cards.

Anyway, see you guys soon.

Ps. If I spelled anyone’s name wrong in this article, I apologise, I am very tired and very busy and I didn’t have time to double check anything…
