To My DolfansNYC Family

Sunday, September 27th, 2015

As many of you already know, I am moving to South Florida in a few weeks. It was a bittersweet decision because while we are thrilled to be moving closer to my family (and the Dolphins!) we are also sad to leave the city, our relatives here and of course, DolfansNYC.

We are working on a new About Us section for our website, so I won’t go into the whole history of the club, even though I really want to. It’s honestly one of the things I am most proud of in my life. What this club has turned into is so incredibly awesome and I still look around on game days in disbelief at what it’s become.

The fact that we have donated over $20,000 to charity in 7 years is nothing short of amazing.

The fact that the Miami Dolphins organization has taken notice and are actively in support of what we do is incredible.

The fact that Jets fans can’t walk within a 5 mile radius of Slattery’s without hearing us singing the Dolphins fight song warms my heart. ūüôā

The fact that we have turned MetLifeTakeover into a huge annual event that gives our team home field advantage in another city makes me so happy.

All of this is thanks to you guys.

For showing up.
For bringing your friends.
For buying raffle tickets.
For tailgating with us.
For sitting with us in the cold in the 300 level section.
For posting, tweeting, sharing, tagging and blogging about DolfansNYC.
And much, much more.

You guys have made this club what it is today and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of such a remarkable group of fans. The rest of the league should be jealous.

I will miss everyone so much and will forever look back on all of my wonderful memories of spending game days with my DolfansNYC family.

Love,
Michelle

PS…This isn’t officially goodbye. I will continue working on MetLifeTakeover and will contribute in any way I can to the club. I’m also planning lots of visits! ūüôā

Dolfans In DC

DC Shutdown

Last weekend I headed down to DC with a van full of Dolfans NYC members to support our brothers to the south. NOVA Dolfans and The Valley Finatics were doing their best #MetLifeTakeover impression in Washington called the DC Shutdown. After the NOVA Dolfans came to our takeover a few years ago they were really inspired and spent nearly two years planning this thing. Dolfans NYC did all we could to help them with this thing but they really killed it last weekend and I am glad we had a bunch of our crew there to support them.

Saturday night there was a party at the Mellow Mushroom in Herndon, VA. It’s the NOVA Dolfans home base and although a hippie pizza place is an odd choice for a sports bar, it was a blast. Solo D did his thing and our buddies Paul¬†Picken and Stephen Daniels hosted the event all night. Even OJ McDuffie showed up! It was great.

The next day there was a huge tailgate but Dolfans were EVERYWHERE. DC only gets a Dolphins game every 8 years and it’s an easy drive from NYC all the way down to North Carolina. Ever Phins fan on the east coast seemed to be there and we actually ended up tailgating with a totally different crew because they let us use their grill (the NOVA guys had a catering company). Of course we still made our appearances and partied with those guys for a while.

The game itself left a lot to be desired but in the end we got a win and Dolfans totally took over the game. The DC Shutdown crew was in one end and then all the Dolfans that bought tickets on their own seemed to be on the visitors sideline lower level. The combination of these to huge packs of Phins fans with the hundreds of other Dolfans there created a lot of noise and you could hear us clearly on TV. The whole thing was a blast.

I thought I was going to take a ton of photos during the party and the tailgate but I ended up doing none of that. I did get a big group portrait at the Mellow Mushroom and a nice shot of my friend Kathleen doing a selfie with OJ McDuffie so I figured I would post those two shots but that’s really all I got.

Anyway, see you guys on Sunday at 4pm at Slattery’s Midtown Pub! I can’t wait to get back to our bar! Phins up!

Waterboys.org

Tuesday, September 1st, 2015

Miami Dolphins own Branden Albert has partnered with St. Louis Ram’s DE Chris Long to raise money for Chris’ charity Waterboys.org. The charity raises money to build wells for clean drinking water in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Aside from being an amazing cause, Chris Long came up with a great idea: If building a well costs $45,000 he could challenge one player from every NFL team to raise $45,000 and by seasons end they should hopefully have enough to build 32 wells.

Branden Albert is in 7th place right now but I know Dolfans can do better than that! Let’s show everyone that Dolphins fans are the best fans in the NFL. Dolfans NYC started things off with a $571 dollar donation but there is a long way to go!

Donating should be it’s own reward (and it’s tax deductible!) but I figured we could sweeten the pot. Anyone who makes a $25 donation we will give a shout out and follow on Twitter or send some Dolfans NYC stickers in the mail or something. First person to donate $100 can have our 300 level season tickets to the home opener vs the Buffalo bills. Anyone else who donates $100 will get a $20 credit for Dolfans NYC merch to be used at Slattery’s Midtown Pub or the #MetLifeTakeover.

Update: If you donate forward the confirmation to dolfansnyc@gmail.com. Thanks!

Let’s help our Pro Bowl ¬†LT build a well!¬†

In unrelated news the fourth preseason game is no longer on national TV so we will NOT be doing an event at Slattery’s this Thursday but we will be ready to go for week one! See you at the bar!

Sign Up For The 2015 #MetLifeTakeover

Monday, May 11th, 2015

I admit I have done a terrible job updating this website. We had a draft party at Slattery’s and I promoted it via Facebook and Twitter but I totally forgot to do an update on the website. The party was a great success and it seems like our draft could be something pretty special as well. Just getting Mike Hull as an UDFA seems like a huge steal not to mention Jay Ajayi in the fifth round and having Parker on the board in the first without having to trade up to get him. All good things.

It might be years before we figure out how this draft really looks, but we don’t have to wait long to get tickets for the next #MetLifeTakeover!

The game is November 29th which happens to be Thanksgiving weekend for the third year in a row. That’s obviously a pain for some people traveling for the holiday but at least it’s a day game this year!

We have created a sign up page to RSVP for tickets. We are essentially using this sign up as a way to explain the process and create a mailing list so as soon as we have tickets in our hands we can start selling them to you guys.

This year we are going to be giving out the best seats first so the sooner you get your money in the better your seats. Usually Michelle agonizes on the seating charts but this year it’s just first come first serve so sign up and then as soon as you get an email from us get us money!

This year the seats are slightly more expensive because the game is a Sunday. Apparently Monday Night Football is a little less attractive since people have jobs and stuff. So tickets are $65. Sunday game also means we are going to do a proper tailgate but that info will come later. You’ll be able to spend like $10-20 and not have to worry about anything. We just need to figure out the logistics and that probably won’t happen until the season actually starts.

There is also an option to get a seat on our charter bus that will leave from Slattery’s before the game and come back after. That’s always a fun experience if you have done it with us in the past. Nothing like sitting on a bus packed with Phins fans after a win. The seat on the bus is $25 which is only about $10 than the buses from Penn Station and you don’t have to wait in a line with Jets fans.

So anyway, sign up now and as soon as we buy the tickets we will send you an email. Phins up!

The 2014 #MetLifeTakeover Videos Are Here!

Thursday, February 19th, 2015

It took a bit too long to get these to you, but we are very happy with the results. We ended up making two different videos highlighting our 2014 #MetLifeTakeover events.

The first video is from the pre-party we did at Slattery’s Midtown Pub. It features interviews with Jay Fiedler, Solo D and¬†my partner in Dolfan crime Michelle. Plus the whole thing is essentially a music video for the Dolfans NYC theme song that Solo D recorded for us. It gives you a good idea of the party we through the day before the #MetLifeTakeover. It was great day and we packed the bar with Phins fans from all over the place and the Dolphins weren’t even playing! Thanks to Jay Fiedler and the Dolphins for coming out, DJ Tropic for DJing, Solo D for performing and everyone who bid on our raffle and auction items! We raised a ton of money for charity.

Oh, and make sure you stick around for the credits!

The second video I am really proud of and I know we are going to use it to recruit people for the #MetLifeTakeover next year! Despite the pouring freezing rain we still had 1200 people with us at the Jets game last December 1st and this video shows our impact in the stands. You could hear us loudly on TV and now you can see why if you missed the event. The tailgate was great and we actually got some decent footage despite having to scrap a bunch of our video plans because of the rain. Our camera guy could only shoot so much. Thanks to Miko Grimes and Andrew Abramson for stopping by and thanks to everyone who brought food and helped us tailgate! Big thanks to AquaHydrate for providing all the rally towels (and a ton of water) and thanks to Sailor Jerry for the rum that we made rum cider with.  O

And again, the credits are worth watching on this one too!

I also have to thank Alex Bente and Greg Jeske for producing this video for us. Alex has been our host year after year despite his loyalty to the Ravens and Greg killed it both shooting and editing this video for us.

And lastly thanks to everyone who came and helped out at the #MetLifeTakeover. Share these videos everywhere and see you guys at the next #MetLifeTakeover!!

Dolfans NYC Yard Sale & More

Thursday, December 18th, 2014

The season is coming to an end and Dolfans NYC has a bunch of merch and raffle prizes still left over. We decided we want to get rid of a bunch of stuff so that we don’t have store it during the off season. We figured a perfect solution would be the first annual Dolfans NYC yard sale!

This is a perfect chance to get some last minute Christmas gifts for friends, family or yourself. We have a ton of old logo Dolphins stuff, random small items and some rare stuff like a Dolphins¬†drink set that was given to VIPs by the Dolphins for Christmas a few years ago. We also will be selling our standard Dolfans NYC gear but you will save $5 per $40’s you spend. So come to Slattery’s for the Vikings game and bring cash!

We will be making donations to Toys 4 Tots, Ride DCC and several other charities this holiday season so help us make one final fundraising push!

Speaking of fundraising, we donated $1000 to the Go Fund Me for Jamie Quadrozzi the Dolphins manager of promotions and brand impact. She helped throw the Dolphins fan club weekend and has been a long supporter of Dolfans NYC. She was injured badly in a car accident and if you can find it in you to donate some money this holiday season you should! Get better Jamie!

Lastly, our¬†#MetLifeTakeover wrap up video is behind schedule but should be here soon! Be on the look out and in the mean time check out Solo D’s new video which features footage from our takeover pre-party.¬†Anyway, I will see you guys Sunday at Slattery’s. Phins up!

2014 #MetLifeTakeover Photos!

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014

Normally spending 10 hours outside in the freezing rain is not my idea of a good time, but on Monday it was a blast. I got to MetLife Stadium about five minutes before the gates open and we rushed to Lot L. We found the nearest empty section and parked under the L8 pole. 15 minutes later we had Phins fans surrounding us. About a half hour later the Jets L8 tailgate showed up… I guess L8 stands for late because they had to take their party down the block. The Takeover had already begun.

Bryan and I set up our merch table and put out a bunch of ¬†free AquaHydrate water and Sailor Jerry rum. Someone showed up with a 30 cup coffee pot and we filled it with hot apple cider. The Sailor and cider was a huge hit and we didn’t even need ice for the AquaHydrate! We had palm tree coolers and someone hung up a Jets pi√Īata and we had people cooking food on either side. We were ready to rock!

Unfortunately the rain started to fall and everything got a little bit miserable. The grilling stopped and the palm trees got blow sideways and a lot of people spent some ¬†time locked in their cars. But the northeastern Phins fans carried on and just started drinking to keep warm. Chants of J-E-T-S Suck Suck Suck and the Dolphins theme song rang out into the semi empty parking lot. There seemed to be a lot more Dolphins fans than Jets fans… certainly in our lot.

By the time Michelle and the four charter buses arrived from Slattery’s¬†we had amassed a huge crowd of Phins fans. The Dolphins showed up with a camera crew and got some great shots as did our in house camera guy. It was a pretty great party despite the weather.

We handed out 200 inflatable palm tress and the 600 Dolfans NYC rally towels that AquaHyrdrate sponsored  and sold some of our warm DolfansNYC hats to those who forgot what NYC in December feels like and I took a bunch of pictures.

Unfortunately the rain deterred some of the Dolphins brass that was planning on attending but we had Brent Grimes’ hilarious wife Miko Grimes¬†stop by again¬†as did Andrew Abramson from the Palm Beach Post.

The game itself was pretty awful and the stands were freezing but I was really impressed with our crew who screamed on every third down and chanted Let’s Go Dolphins throughout the whole game. You could hear us chanting DE-FENSE on TV and the announcers mentioned the Miami crowd several times. Jarvis Landry was specifically asked about us after the game and coach Philbin mentioned us in his opening statement in his post game press conference.

Overall it was a fantastic #MetLifeTakeover and I have pictures to prove it! If you want to download a picture just double click it and it will open Flickr in a new window.

#MetLifeTakeover Pre-Party Pictures!

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014

What a great few days we had! On Sunday we threw a #MetLifeTakeover pre-party at Slattery’s Midtown Pub because we knew a lot of people weren’t going to be able to tailgate because of their day jobs. Monday Night Football is an awesome time but it’s not very convenient! It worked out really well considering the freezing rain Monday night and we had a lot of fun!

Sunday was a great opportunity for everyone from out of town to meet each other and check out Slattery’s. It was also a great way for us to get a lot of the logistics out of the way. We¬†handed out bus passes and gave out info about the tailgate and practiced some cheering. We also gave out a bunch of the Dolfans NYC #MetLifeTakeover rally towels that we had thanks to the support from¬†AquaHyrdrate.

We had some special guests as well! The Miami Dolphins sent two of their staffers Sergio and Hayle (Hayle’s dad is a Dolfans NYC regular) and they brought former Dolphins QB Jay Fiedler. He was just supposed to be there for an hour signing autographs and taking pictures but he ended up sticking around a lot longer and even introduced our other special guest Solo D. Solo D did a short set including the new Dolfans NYC anthem!

As you probably know a big part of Dolfans NYC is our charitable donations so we had to have a HUGE fundraiser for the #MetLifeTakeover. The Dolphins sent us a ton of stuff to give away (including 150 shirts!) so we did free giveaways, a raffle and a live auction! The raffle was a big success and we raised over $1200 the biggest prize of the night was a Ryan Tannehill signed helmet and that clearly went to the right people. Check out the amazing video they recorded when they gave the helmet to their kids. It brings a tear to your eye!

The live auction went amazing as well! We had some game used cleats sell for $70, a playbook signed by Jarvis Landry go for $50 and a signed Mike Wallace helmet went for an incredible $550! With those items plus a few extra donations we ended up raising $750 for Darryl Talley the former Bills linebacker who is going through some very hard times as a result of brain injury from a career spent chasing Marino all over the field. Former ESPN AFC East blogger Tim Graham told Talley’s heartbreaking story and we are so glad we were able to help a former enemy. As much as we hate the Bills, we all love football and it’s moments like this when we an come together for something bigger.

When you add the auction and the raffle and all the Dolfans NYC merch we sold we raised over $3000 that will go into the Dolfans NYC war chest so that we can throw bigger and better events and most importantly make charitable donations like the $5000 we recently donated to the Miami Dolphins Foundation. I have a feeling that Ride DCC will be getting a donation in the near future!

Now before I get up all the photos from the actual #MetLifeTakeover I just wanted to thank everyone for coming out to the pre-party. I especially want to thank the Miami Dolphins, Jay Fiedler, Solo D, Slattery’s and AquaHydrate for making it one hell of a party. I also wanted anyone in the¬†tri-state area to check out Jay Fiedler’s Brookwood Camps. The Fidler family runs a summer sports camp that combines normal sleepover camp fun with sports camps and is worth checking out. Always great to support a former Dolphin… especially one from New York!

Now check out the photos below! If you want to download one, just double click it and it will open in a new window!

The New Dolfans NYC Anthem!

Saturday, November 22nd, 2014

My life has been completely taken over by the #MetLifeTakeover and the pre party we are doing Sunday November 30th. My living room is filled with a half dozen boxes filled with everything from inflatable palm trees to t-shirts to some of the best raffle prizes we have ever had. It’s insane. I will get to all that stuff in a minute but before I do, I wanted to let you guys that the one and only Solo D has re-recorded the Dolfans NYC theme song!

Solo D wrote a song for us years ago and ever since DJ Tropic started DJing our Sunday watch parties at Slattery’s people have been asking about that track. Tropic spins it at least once a week and people keep bugging him about where they can get a copy. The problem was that the song was way out of date. It mentioned our old bar Third & Long and our hatred for Rex Ryan who will very likely be out of a job in a couple months. We asked him to rerecord it and he was happy to do it since back then he was just recording shit at his place and he wanted to update it with some real studio sound!

So here it is the 2014 version of the Dolfans NYC Anthem! Get it, memorize it and sing it with us every Sunday!

[mp3j track=”http://www.dolfansnyc.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/01-Dolfans-NYC-Anthem.mp3″ volslider=”y” style=”outline”] Download the MP3

Now for some other stuff! Speaking of Solo D, he will be playing at our November 30th pre-party! The party starts at noon at Slattery’s Midtown Pub and will go to about four. At 1pm we have a surprise Dolphins alumni visiting and at 2pm Solo D will be performing. DJ Tropic will be DJing and we are raffling off TWO full sized autographed Dolphins helmets! One is signed by Ryan Tannehill and the other by Mike Wallace. We also have a game used signed Brian Hartline cleat and a TON of other prizes. On top of that the first 150 people in the door get a free t-shirt. It’s going to be insane.

Lastly, I just wanted to hook you guys up with a story written by Dolfans NYC member Pascal Mencini. He went to London for the Raiders game and ended up hanging out with a bunch of the Dolphins rookies. It’s a pretty cool story and worth checking out.

Phins up!

#MetLifeTakeover Party & Tailgate!

Monday, November 17th, 2014

It finally happened. Today we sold our 1,000th ticket to the Dolphins game in NJ on Monday Night Football. It’s a huge milestone for us because we thought we would have a hard time selling tickets since it was on a work night and Thanksgiving weekend but we have sold over 250 more than our record breaking 752 tickets last year!

We now own the two highest group ticket purchases in MetLife Stadium history. We have taken the #MetLifeTakeover to another level and thank you guys so much for joining us!

If you still need tickets we are completely sold out, but it’s time to announce the sections so any last minute ticket holders can pick them up on StubHub.

We have nearly the entire sections of 345 and 346 so good luck getting tickets in those sections… but we also have 8 full rows in 344 and several rows in 347 as well. I recommend buying tickets in rows 17-20 in 347 and the top rows (24-26) in 344. Also there are a few seats in the “prime” section of 346 so you can get some pretty great seats cheap with a ton of Dolphins fans sitting right behind you. Let’s keep going!

Now the fun stuff! Tailgate info and the big pre party!

Because it’s on Monday night our busses aren’t leaving our bar, Slattery’s Midtown Pub, until 5:45pm so that means the 216 people who signed up for the buses won’t be getting to MetLife until around 7pm. Because of this we are NOT doing an official tailgate. BUT we are going to be organizing a BYO tailgate in Lot L (you need a YELLOW parking pass). A few of us will be getting there right when the gates open and we will post our location to Twitter and Facebook. If everyone meets us there we can still party while we wait for all the busses to show up. Bring your own beer and food and if you have a grill or tents or whatever BRING EVERYTHING! We can still do a pretty fun tailgate even if it’s not catered or anything like last year. Plus we will have a few surprises in store…

Speaking of surprises, we are throwing a big party at Slattery’s on Sunday the 30th!¬†

On Sunday at noon we are having a big party since we aren’t doing a proper tailgate. The big news is that members of the Miami Dolphins organization will be there! They haven’t told us who yet, but they are bringing a Dolphins alumni member and a ton of SERIOUS raffle prizes. This will be BY FAR our biggest raffle ever. Plus the first 150 people through the door will receive aqua Miami Dolphins t-shirts! We will be showing the 2013 #MetLifeTakeover game as well as some of the 1pm games plus we will have a performance from the one and only Solo D! There will be the same food/drink specials we have every game day at Slattery’s and there will be even more surprises.

We will also be selling our new merch designed specifically for the #MetLifeTakeover we have new warm weather Dolfans NYC beanies and Dolfans NYC clear bags. If you haven’t been to a game recently the NFL now requires everyone to have clear bags if you want to bring anything into the stadium. So now you can rep our crew in style. If you can’t make the party they are now available in our web store too!

Lastly we will be giving out rally towels for people going to the game with us. You must have purchased tickets from us to get one. We only have 600 so this is the only way you are guaranteed to get one. We will also be giving out wristbands for the bus and even a few inflatable palm trees! It’s going to be a party!

So, let’s get excited for the best #MetLifeTakeover ever!
